Christmas delivery: last UK order dates
- Standard delivery (free over £49): order by Friday 18 December, 6pm
- Express next day: order by Tuesday 22 December, 2pm
- Scottish Highlands, Northern Ireland and Channel Islands: order by Tuesday 15 December
- Left it late? A Playmate gift card lands in their inbox in about a minute, even on Christmas Day.
The best Christmas gifts for couples in the UK are things two people use together: a night in, a shared treat, a game, a trip, a ritual they keep. Below you'll find ideas sorted by budget from under £20, separate lists for buying for another couple and for swapping with your own partner, and the last order date for Christmas delivery.
Most "gifts for couples" lists are really two single presents taped together: a his mug and a her mug. This guide works the other way round. Every idea here is something the two of them, or the two of you, will actually do side by side, which is the whole point of buying one gift for two people.
What makes a good Christmas gift for a couple?
Before you look at a single product, run your idea through four quick tests. A gift that passes three of them is a safe bet. A gift that passes all four is the one they'll still mention in March.
- It needs both of them. A two-player game, a cookbook for a dinner they cook together, tickets for two. If one person could use it alone on a Tuesday, it's a single present.
- It comes with a plan. "A night in" is vague. "A blindfold taste test, a deck of questions and a bar of good chocolate" is a plan. Gifts that tell people what to do get used.
- It gets used up or remembered. Couples, especially ones who live together, rarely need more stuff. Food, drink, experiences and keepsakes don't add to the clutter.
- It suits their week, not your taste. New parents want an easy night at home, not a trip that needs a babysitter. A couple who never sit still might love a weekend walk with a pub at the end.
Christmas gifts for couples UK: ideas by budget

Prices below are rough UK guides for the kind of thing, not for any one brand. Spend where it shows: one excellent item beats a hamper of average ones.
Under £20
- A homemade question deck. Thirty questions on good card, tied with ribbon, for long winter evenings. Borrow from our questions to ask your partner and write them out by hand.
- A hot chocolate kit for two. A tin of proper drinking chocolate, a bag of marshmallows and two mugs from a charity shop that don't match on purpose.
- A two-player card game. Plenty of quick card games are designed for exactly two people and cost under £15. Look for ones that play in twenty minutes so they become a weeknight habit.
- A jigsaw for one evening. A 500-piece puzzle is about right for a single long night with the fire on.
- A "date jar" starter. A kilner jar with twelve folded ideas, one per month, from "sunrise walk" to "cook something from the country we'd most like to visit".
£20 to £40
- A night-in game. Something with prompts or a little risk built in, which turns a sofa evening into a date. Our own pick is below.
- A good bottle and two proper glasses. Or an alcohol-free spirit with the right mixers if they're not drinking.
- A cookbook plus one special ingredient. A pasta book with a bag of '00' flour, or a curry book with a tin of a spice blend they'd never buy themselves.
- A cinema or comedy night. Two tickets for a January date, when the diary is empty and the evenings are long.
- A fondue or raclette set. It forces two people to sit at the same table for an hour, which is the gift.
£40 to £75
- A night-in bundle. A game and a shared treat in one parcel: everything for one evening, no planning needed.
- A cookery or pottery class for two. Many UK towns have one-evening workshops. Book a date in February, when it's needed most.
- A big blanket worth fighting over. Wool, large enough for two, in a colour that suits their sofa.
- A print of a place that matters to them. The street where they met, the town where they got engaged, framed.
£75 and over
- A night away. A cottage, a pub with rooms or a city hotel. Pack a small night-in box to go with it so the evening has a shape.
- A tasting experience. A distillery, vineyard or chocolate tour, ideally somewhere they can get to by train.
- Theatre or gig tickets plus dinner. Book the table too. A gift that's already organised is twice the gift.
- A year of dates. Twelve envelopes, each with a plan and anything it needs: tickets, a recipe, a voucher. Expensive in thought more than money.
Christmas gifts to give another couple

Buying for your parents, your best friend and their partner, or your sister and her new husband? Start with who they are this year.
For a couple at their first Christmas living together
They have a flat full of half-unpacked boxes and nothing on the walls. Give them a ritual rather than an object: a dated tree decoration, a "first Christmas" hot chocolate kit, or a framed photo from the year they moved in.
For newlyweds
The wedding list covered the kitchen. Give them a reason to stop being wedding planners and go back to being a couple: a games night in a box, a cookery class, or a voucher for the restaurant where they had their first date.
For new parents
Time is the gift. A home-cooked meal for the freezer, a promise of a babysitting evening written on a card, and something easy to share once the baby's asleep. Keep it small, quiet and doable on the sofa.
For your parents or an older couple
They usually want less, not more. A day out you'll arrange for them, a photo book of the year, or a lovely treat they'd never buy themselves. Our guide to gifts for couples who have everything goes into this in more depth, with ideas for older couples and for weddings.
For friends you see every Christmas
Keep it light and under £25. A two-player game, a good bottle, or a "night in" parcel that says "go and have an evening off". If you're doing a Secret Santa as couples, agree a price first.
Christmas gifts couples can give each other

Swapping presents with your partner is a different job. You know their taste, you share a home and you probably share a bank balance too. These ideas work well for the two of you.
- Go halves on one shared present. Agree a budget, pick one thing you both want (a weekend away, a coffee machine, a record player) and spend the rest on a small surprise each.
- Swap a "year of dates". You each plan six dates and seal them in envelopes. Open one a month and alternate whose turn it is.
- Write a letter. One page on what this year was like with them. It costs a stamp's worth of effort and it's often the present people keep longest.
- Give each other a night, not a thing. A night-in box for the 27th, when the visitors have gone and the leftovers are still good.
- Start an advent tradition. Twenty-four tiny doors, from questions to hot chocolate, filled for each other. Our advent calendar ideas for couples has all 24 doors written out.
- Fill each other's stocking. Small, silly and thoughtful beats big and generic. See our stocking fillers for couples for ideas by budget.
Buying just for your partner? We also have separate guides to romantic gifts for your boyfriend and romantic gifts for your girlfriend.
Christmas gifts for a couple's home
Home gifts for couples work best when they make the space feel more like theirs, not just fuller. A few that rarely miss:
- A framed print of a place that matters to them: where they met, got engaged or had their first holiday.
- Two really good mugs and a bag of coffee or tea from somewhere local to you.
- A board or card game for two that lives on the coffee table rather than in a cupboard.
- A cosy throw big enough for both of them, for film nights on the sofa.
- A cookbook for a cuisine they both love, with a note promising to come round when they try the first recipe.
- A plant that is hard to kill, with a little card saying what it needs.
- A candle and matches in a nice holder, for the nights they decide to make an effort.
- A photo book of their year, if you have the pictures to fill it.
Buying for your own partner? The same rule applies: pick something you will both use together.
Christmas games and experiences for two
Some of the best Christmas gifts for couples are an evening, not an object. A game for two, a class to do together or a planned night in gives them something to look forward to after the wrapping paper has gone. For ideas to play over the holidays, see our Christmas games for adults (with ten made for couples) and couples games to play at home.
Make Christmas Eve part of the present
Lots of couples now open one small box together on 24 December. It's a lovely way to give a couples gift a proper moment: pyjamas, a treat, something to play and a keepsake, all for one evening. We've written a full guide to the Christmas Eve box for couples, with fillers by budget and a set of prompt cards, so we won't repeat it here.
If the couple you're buying for has a quieter Christmas Day, the evenings between Christmas and New Year are perfect for a night-in gift. Our Christmas date night ideas at home has plans for those in-between nights.
Our picks: a night in for two

We make gifts for couples to share, so we're biased. Here are the two we'd put under a tree.
To play: Nude Stack'd (£39.99)
Nude Stack'd is a date-night stacking game for two adults (18+). It has 54 wooden blocks with six symbols and 54 cards, each with three levels, so you choose how far each turn goes. It comes with a blindfold and a travel bag, and either of you can skip any card. It works as a gift to another couple or as the "go halves" present for the two of you.
To share: Snap'd chocolate hearts (£29.99)
Snap'd is three milk chocolate hearts made with Liboost®, a patented, clinically studied Damiana extract, in a gift-ready box. Break one heart between you on a night in. Not recommended if you are pregnant, trying for a baby or breastfeeding, or for anyone under 18. If you take medication or have a medical condition, check with your GP or pharmacist first.
Together they come to £69.98, which qualifies for free UK delivery. You'll find more ideas in our night-in gifts for couples.
Christmas last order dates for UK delivery
For Playmate Labs orders, here is what you need to know for Christmas 2026:
- Standard delivery (2 to 4 working days, £5.99): order by Friday 18 December for delivery before Christmas.
- Express next day (£7.99): order by 2pm on Tuesday 22 December for delivery before Christmas. Leave yourself a margin in the final week, when every courier is busy.
- Free UK delivery on orders from £49.
For everything else on your list, our advice is the same: order gifts for another couple by the second week of December, especially if they're going to a different address, and wrap them as soon as they arrive.
What not to buy a couple for Christmas
- Matching "Mr and Mrs" anything. Unless you know they love it, it's a joke that ends up in a cupboard.
- A gift for one with the other's name on the tag. A perfume "for both of them" is a present for one person.
- Experiences with a short expiry. Check the small print. Vouchers that run out in six months often go unused in a busy year.
- Anything that needs explaining in front of the in-laws. Playful is lovely. Embarrassing at the family table isn't. If in doubt, give it privately.
- More stuff for a full house. If they're always decluttering, choose something they can eat, drink, do or keep in a single drawer.
