The best date night games for two do one job: they get you talking, laughing and paying attention to each other instead of the TV. Here are twelve that work at home, from no-prep question games to a proper game night, sorted by how much you need.
What makes a good date night game for two?
Most board games are built for groups, and many two-player games are quietly competitive in a way that ends with one of you sulking. A good game for a couple has three things:
- Conversation built in. The game gives you something to talk about, not just something to do.
- Short turns. You can stop after ten minutes or play for two hours.
- A way out. Either of you can skip a question or a dare without it becoming a thing.
No-prep games you can start in the next five minutes

1. Two truths and a lie: relationship edition
Each of you says three things about your own past: two true, one invented. The twist is to keep them to things your partner should already know, like your first job, your worst holiday or the first thing you noticed about them. You find out quickly how much you actually listen.
2. Would you rather, couple edition
Take turns asking "would you rather" questions about your life together: a weekend in Rome or a week in a cabin, a big wedding or a small one, breakfast in bed or dinner out. The answers are less interesting than the reasons.
3. The question jar
Write ten questions each on scraps of paper, fold them into a glass and take turns pulling one out. Mix easy ones ("what was your favourite meal this year?") with bigger ones ("what's something you've never told me?"). If you're stuck for questions, start with our 10 questions couples never think to ask.
4. Memory lane trivia
Quiz each other on your own relationship: where you went on your third date, what song was playing, who said "I love you" first. Keep score if you like. Losing is still a nice night.
Games that need a little setup

5. A couples stacking game
The tower game you already know, rebuilt for two. Each block you pull sends you to a prompt card, and you choose how far to go. We make one, Nude Stack'd, so we're biased, but the format works with any block set. Our couples Jenga rules and 100 questions show you how to make your own.
Nude Stack'd has 54 cards, each with three levels from flirty to bold, and one house rule: either of you can skip any card, any time. It's for adults (18+). The rules and every card are also in the companion app, in six languages, so a lost card never ends the game.
6. Blind taste test
One of you puts on a blindfold, the other feeds them five small things to guess: a strawberry, a square of dark chocolate, a crisp, a slice of lime, a spoon of honey. Then swap. It's silly, it's surprisingly intimate, and it's the easiest way into a sensory date night at home.
7. Draw your partner, eyes closed
Sit facing each other with paper and a pen. Draw each other's face without looking down at the page. Nobody wins, both drawings go on the fridge.
8. A two-person scavenger hunt
One of you hides five small notes around the house, each with a clue to the next, ending at a treat or a question. Swap roles next time.
Game night proper: board and video games for two

9. Co-operative board games
Co-op games make you a team against the game, which suits couples who get competitive. Look for ones designed for two players, such as Codenames Duet or The Mind, which take minutes to learn.
10. Two-player strategy games
If you both like a challenge, short two-player strategy games like Patchwork or Jaipur play in about half an hour and are easy to rematch.
11. Co-op video games
Split-screen co-op games built for two, such as It Takes Two, ask you to talk constantly to get through each level. Expect a lot of shouting and some excellent teamwork.
12. Make up your own
Take any game you like and add one rule: the loser of each round answers a question of the winner's choice. Suddenly every round of cards or Uno has stakes.
How to turn a game into a date night

- Pick a time and protect it. Phones in another room for the first hour.
- Set the scene. Low light, a playlist, something to share. Our date night ideas at home have more on this.
- Start light. A no-prep question game first, a bolder game later.
- Agree the out. Either of you can skip anything. It keeps the game fun for both of you.

Frequently asked questions
What are good date night games for two at home?
Question games like two truths and a lie or a question jar need nothing at all. For more structure, try a couples stacking game, a blind taste test or a co-op board game built for two players.
What games can couples play without anything?
Two truths and a lie, would you rather, memory lane trivia and drawing each other with your eyes closed all need nothing but the two of you and, at most, a pen.
What is a good game for a couple to play in bed?
Question games work best: a question jar, would you rather or a prompt-card game where you choose the level. Keep the rule that either of you can skip any question.
Are there date night games for long-distance couples?
Yes. Most question games work over video, and many co-op video games play online. Pick a time, set it up like a real date, and take turns asking.
