Best Aphrodisiac Chocolates UK: A Buyer's Guide for 2026

Elegant box of assorted aphrodisiac chocolates in warm ambient lighting — UK buyer's guide

By Jordan Underwood, founder of Playmate Labs · Last updated: 5 October 2026

We make Snap'd, so read this with that in mind. Snap'd is one of the chocolates in this comparison. We have tried to judge it by the same five criteria as everyone else, and we have listed its downsides as plainly as anyone else's. Competitor facts link to the pages we checked them on.

We also make a chocolate for Lovehoney: the Lovehoney x Playmate collaboration. It is made by Playmate Labs and sold only at Lovehoney, so it isn't in the table below. Snap'd, sold on our site, is our original.

What is the best aphrodisiac chocolate in the UK?

There is no chocolate proven to change desire, so the best one depends on what you need. For stated doses on the label: Snap'd (£29.99, ours). For a his-and-hers couples set with next-day delivery: For Play. For a high-cocoa dark chocolate: Rouze. For vegan or low cost: Raw Living Hi-Lovers (£3.99). For dairy-free with added botanicals: Tabs Not Milk, a US import.

Dose transparency is the criterion we care most about, and it happens to be the one Snap'd was built around. A stated dose is not evidence of an effect, so weigh it against price, taste and delivery. The rest of this page shows where each one falls down, and who each one suits.

How we compared them

We scored every chocolate on the same five things. Nothing here is a lab test, and we have not run a trial. These are the criteria a careful buyer can check from a label and a product page.

Photo studio setup with a box of Snap'd chocolate hearts on set
  1. Stated dose. Does the brand say how much of each added ingredient is in a piece? A list of herbs with no amounts tells you little.
  2. Ingredient transparency. Is the full ingredient list published where you can read it before you buy, including allergens?
  3. Chocolate quality. What type of chocolate is it, and what cocoa percentage? If it doesn't taste good, the evening starts on the wrong foot.
  4. Price per piece. Box prices hide a lot. We worked out the cost per piece and, where the brand gives one, per serving.
  5. UK availability. Can you buy it from a UK seller, or does it ship from abroad?

We make Snap'd, so we have not run a blind taste test of the others. This comparison uses each brand's published ingredients, doses and prices, checked in October 2026. Prices and recipes change, so check the brand's own page before you buy.

Each chocolate, with the good and the bad

Snap'd Choc Hearts (Playmate Labs)

What it is: Three milk chocolate hearts, 17.5g each, made in the UK with an artisan chocolatier. Each heart contains 300mg of Liboost®, a branded Damiana extract, plus zinc, vitamin B6 and selenium, all at the amounts printed on the label. The pack serving is half a heart per person, so one box is six servings, or three evenings for two. It is sold as a food supplement.

Box of Snap'd aphrodisiac chocolate hearts with three loose hearts

Pros

  • Every added ingredient has a stated amount, which is still rare in this category.
  • Milk chocolate (41% cocoa solids), so it suits people who find dark too bitter. For Play also offers a milk option.
  • Made for two: the hearts are built to be split, and the box works as a gift.
  • Made and sold in the UK, so no import surprises.

Cons

  • The most expensive per piece here, alongside Tabs. £29.99 buys three hearts.
  • Contains milk and soya. Vegetarian, not vegan.
  • Milk chocolate has less cocoa than dark, so if you want a dark bar, this isn't it.
  • A stated dose tells you exactly what you are getting. Snap'd uses Liboost®, a patented, clinically studied Damiana extract, at 300mg per heart.

Who it suits: Couples who want to know exactly what they're eating, prefer milk chocolate, and want something that feels like a small occasion rather than a snack. It also works as a gift that doesn't need explaining.

See Snap'd Choc Hearts, our chocolate for couples to share. Snap'd contains Damiana. Not recommended if you are pregnant, trying for a baby or breastfeeding, or for anyone under 18. If you take medication or have a medical condition, check with your GP or pharmacist first.

For Play His & Hers

What it is: A UK couples set with a separate chocolate for each partner, in milk (40% Ecuadorian milk chocolate), dark and a yuzu and ginger edition, plus same-sex sets. The "hers" blend lists ashwagandha, fenugreek and Korean ginseng; the "his" blend lists maca, fenugreek and Korean ginseng. Each set comes with six play cards.

Pros

  • Built for couples, with play cards in the box, so it covers the "something to do" part of the evening too.
  • Hand-crafted in the UK, with next-day delivery if you order before 3pm.
  • Same-sex sets as well as his and hers.

Cons

  • No ingredient amounts on the listing we checked.
  • The listing says you'll usually feel an effect within an hour. We haven't seen published evidence for timing claims from any brand, ours included.
  • Separate "his" and "hers" blends assume a lot about who is eating which.

Who it suits: Couples who want a gift set with a game built in and need it to arrive quickly.

Rouze Aphrodisiac Dark Chocolate

What it is: A UK-made box of three 90% dark chocolate discs with cherry, pomegranate, maca, ginseng, ceremonial cacao, raw honey, zinc, magnesium and vitamin B6.

Pros

  • The highest cocoa content here, for people who like their chocolate properly dark.
  • Gives the added vitamins and minerals as a share of the daily reference intake.
  • Ships in unmarked, letterbox-friendly packaging, according to the brand.

Cons

  • No amounts for the maca or ginseng.
  • Contains honey, so not vegan, and "may contain" milk, nuts, gluten and soy.
  • 90% dark is bitter if you mostly eat milk chocolate.

Who it suits: Dark chocolate fans who want added nutrients with at least some of the numbers published.

Tabs

What it is: A US brand sold in three flavours (Dark at 60% cocoa, Pink Cherry in white chocolate, and Not Milk, an oat-milk chocolate) and a variety pack. Each box holds three squares, six servings at half a square each. The active ingredients listed are epimedium, maca root, kanna and green tea caffeine.

Pros

  • Three flavours and a variety pack, so there is some choice.
  • A dairy-free option: Not Milk is made with oat milk.
  • Clear serving guidance (half a square each) and a pregnancy and medication warning on the product page.
  • Price per serving is about the same as Snap'd before shipping.

Cons

  • No ingredient amounts on the product page, so you can't compare doses.
  • Priced in US dollars and shipped from the US. Tabs says it is the buyer's responsibility to check the product is legal where they live, so check the ingredients against UK food rules before you order.
  • Contains caffeine, which matters if you're sensitive to it or eating it late.

Who it suits: People who have seen Tabs online and want to try the original, or who want a dark or dairy-free square and don't mind ordering from abroad.

Our earlier version of this page said Tabs contained DHEA. Its current product page doesn't list DHEA, so we have removed that.

The Oh Collective Date Night Aphrodisiac Chocolate

What it is: A 50g dark chocolate bar made in Great Britain, topped with freeze-dried strawberry and filled with popping candy. Added ingredients are maca, cayenne, Panax ginseng, Damiana extract and arginine. The box includes a game card for the evening.

Pros

  • Lower-priced than the boxed sets, at £13 for a bar.
  • Made in Great Britain and listed by UK retailers (it showed as sold out on Delli when we checked).
  • Fun to eat. Popping candy and strawberry make it feel like a treat, not a supplement.

Cons

  • No ingredient amounts on the listing we checked.
  • Contains milk (in the popping candy), so not vegan despite the dark chocolate.
  • Contains Damiana, so the same pregnancy and medication caution applies.

Who it suits: Couples who want a playful, lower-cost bar and care more about the moment than about doses.

Raw Living Hi-Lovers

What it is: A 50g raw, organic, vegan chocolate bar with 60% cacao mass, maca, shatavari and rose oil.

Pros

  • Vegan and organic, with a short ingredient list.
  • Under £4, so low risk if you're curious.

Cons

  • No amounts for the maca or shatavari.
  • Raw chocolate has a different texture and flavour from conventional chocolate, which not everyone enjoys.

Who it suits: Vegans and raw-food fans who want a botanical bar without paying supplement prices.

If you just want good chilli dark chocolate

Plenty of people searching this topic want a sensory, grown-up chocolate rather than a functional one. Montezuma's Chilli Bonkers is an organic dark chocolate with chilli, £3.99 for 90g at the retailer we checked. It isn't sold as an aphrodisiac and has no added botanicals, so it isn't in the table. It is good organic dark chocolate for under £4, and the chilli heat is a love-it-or-hate-it thing.

Two brands from our earlier version we couldn't verify

Our March 2026 version included Nookie and Rawsome Treats. In October we couldn't find a current UK product page for either that showed ingredients and prices. The closest matches were Nooky, an aphrodisiac chocolate brand selling mainly through Indian retailers, and Rawsome Chocolate, a raw vegan maker in Leamington Spa with no maca or aphrodisiac bar listed. Rather than guess, we have left them out of the table until we can check them.

What people mean by "sex chocolate"

"Sex chocolate" is the everyday name for the same thing: chocolate sold with added herbs or nutrients and marketed for couples. People also search for "chocolate that turns you on". Here is the honest version.

No chocolate will switch desire on. Chocolate has a long reputation as a romantic food, but when researchers in Milan compared women who ate chocolate daily with women who didn't, the higher sexual function scores in the chocolate group disappeared once age was taken into account (Salonia et al., Journal of Sexual Medicine, 2006). A review of natural aphrodisiacs found little evidence to recommend any of them for desire or performance, and that data in women is limited (Shamloul, Journal of Sexual Medicine, 2010).

What a good chocolate can do is give you a reason to stop, sit down together and pay attention to each other for ten minutes. That is why we make Snap'd as something to share, and why we think the ritual matters as much as the recipe. If that's the part you want, our guide to planning a sensory date night at home has ideas that work with any chocolate.

One warning: be wary of any chocolate or sweet sold as a medicine-like fix. The same 2010 review flagged that some "natural" aphrodisiac products have been found to contain undeclared prescription-drug analogues. If a product promises results like a prescription would, don't buy it.

Does the Damiana in aphrodisiac chocolate work?

Damiana (Turnera diffusa) is one of the most traditional plant aphrodisiacs, and it appears in Snap'd, The Oh Collective and several other products. A 2014 review found that most of its tested effects come from lab and animal studies, and that the one human study on sexual function it describes used a product that also contained other active ingredients (Szewczyk and Zidorn, Journal of Ethnopharmacology, 2014). So for Damiana in general: a long history of use and a smaller body of human research. That is why the form matters. Snap'd uses Liboost®, a patented Damiana extract that has been clinically studied in its own right.

The same review notes traditional use linked to pregnancy loss, which is one reason we say it isn't suitable in pregnancy. Our Damiana ingredient guide goes into the research in more detail.

Where to buy aphrodisiac chocolate in the UK

Snap'd and Nude Stack'd being packed into a delivery box
  • Direct from the brand. Most sell through their own sites. Snap'd is on playmatelabs.com, with free UK delivery on orders over £60; see our couples chocolate collection. For Play and Rouze also sell direct.
  • UK retailers. The Oh Collective is listed by UK shops such as Delli, though it was sold out when we checked.
  • Lovehoney. The Lovehoney x Playmate collaboration is made by us and sold only at Lovehoney.
  • Health shops. For a plain sensory dark chocolate, Montezuma's is sold online and in some UK health shops.
  • From abroad. Tabs ships from the US. Allow for shipping and import costs, and check the ingredients yourself.

Is dark or milk chocolate better for a date night?

Dark chocolate has more cocoa. Under UK rules, chocolate must contain at least 35% total dry cocoa solids, and milk chocolate at least 25% (The Cocoa and Chocolate Products (England) Regulations 2003). More cocoa doesn't mean more desire, though. Pick the one you'll both enjoy. If you're curious about the claims made for cocoa itself, we look at them in is dark chocolate an aphrodisiac?, and our guide to what aphrodisiac chocolate is covers the whole category.

What to watch out for

  • No amounts on the label. If a brand won't say how much of each ingredient is in a piece, you can't compare it with anything.
  • Promises of guaranteed results. UK food law says food information must not claim that a food treats or cures a condition, such as erectile dysfunction (Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011, Article 7(3), as retained in UK law), and health claims on food must be authorised (Regulation (EC) No 1924/2006, as retained in UK law). A brand that promises a result is telling you something about itself.
  • Ingredients you don't recognise. Look them up, especially if you take medication, and check with your GP or pharmacist if in doubt.
  • Imports with unclear rules. If a product is shipped from abroad and the seller says legality is your responsibility, take that seriously.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best aphrodisiac chocolate in the UK?

No chocolate is proven to increase desire, so pick by need. For stated doses on the label, Snap'd (our own). For a couples set with play cards and next-day delivery, For Play. For high-cocoa dark, Rouze. For vegan or low cost, Raw Living Hi-Lovers. For dairy-free with added botanicals, Tabs Not Milk, shipped from the US. Snap'd contains Damiana. Not recommended if you are pregnant, trying for a baby or breastfeeding, or for anyone under 18. If you take medication or have a medical condition, check with your GP or pharmacist first.

Do aphrodisiac chocolates actually work?

It depends on what is in them. As a category the evidence is mixed: a review of natural aphrodisiacs found little to support most of them, and a study of chocolate on its own and women's sexual function found no difference once age was accounted for. So look for a stated dose of a studied ingredient rather than chocolate alone. Snap'd uses Liboost®, a patented, clinically studied Damiana extract, at 300mg per heart. Either way, a big part of the value is the ritual: a shared, slightly special moment that starts an evening together.

How long do aphrodisiac chocolates take to work?

We suggest sharing Snap'd 30 to 60 minutes before you want the evening to start. Snap'd's serving is half a heart each, no more than half a heart a day. Treat it as the start of the evening, not a countdown. Snap'd contains Damiana. Not recommended if you are pregnant, trying for a baby or breastfeeding, or for anyone under 18. If you take medication or have a medical condition, check with your GP or pharmacist first.

Is there a mood-enhancing chocolate?

No chocolate has an authorised claim to lift your mood under UK rules. A few nutrients do have authorised wording, for example vitamin B6 contributes to normal psychological function, which is why you'll see B6 on some labels, including ours. That isn't the same as a chocolate that changes how you feel.

Which aphrodisiac chocolates contain stimulants?

Of the ones we compared, Tabs lists green tea caffeine. All chocolate naturally contains some caffeine and theobromine, with more in dark than in milk. If you're sensitive to caffeine, check the label and avoid eating it late.

Is milk chocolate an aphrodisiac?

Not on its own. Milk chocolate has less cocoa than dark, and research hasn't shown that chocolate of any kind changes desire. A milk chocolate like Snap'd is only different because of what is added and stated on the label. We use milk chocolate because it suits people who find dark too bitter.

Is aphrodisiac chocolate safe?

Read the label and the warnings. Snap'd and many others contain Damiana. Not recommended if you are pregnant, trying for a baby or breastfeeding, or for anyone under 18. If you take medication or have a medical condition, check with your GP or pharmacist first. Some contain caffeine. Avoid any product that promises drug-like results.

Is Tabs chocolate available in the UK?

Yes, by ordering from the Tabs website, which ships outside the US. Prices are in US dollars, so shipping and import costs are extra. Tabs says it is up to the buyer to check the product is legal where they live, and it doesn't publish ingredient amounts.
